I had my second visit with the allergist today. He showed me the blood tests results from May and where most people are at 100-130, my numbers were 840. Which
apparently is not good. I guess my lung function is about the same, so for now he's keeping me on Advair and Singulair and when I go back in three months,
and if my lung functions have improved some more, then we'll talk about allergy shots. He said allergy shots at this time would not be good because they
could provoke an asthma attack. On the plus side, he gave me some drops for my itchy, itchy eyes and they feel much better.
So, anyone know where I can get a HEPA air filter, cheap? Or does such a thing exist? |

I start my colonoscopy prep in about 45 minutes. Oh, the joys of being 50.

Oh boy. You know, I was reading that doctors have been been trying different techniques to make colonoscopy prep less...I don't know the word. Arduous, I
guess? But I don't know if they've come up wth a way to avoid that.
Anyway, I'm glad you're taking good care of your health. |

So far, so good, except I'm hungry. And Jello ain't cuttin' it.

When's your test?

Popsicles help; you can chew them a bit than Jell-o.

Tomorrow morning at 7:45 a.m. My cousin is picking me up at 6:30.

Thank goodness it's early in the morning. I'd need to stop for some food before even making it back to my house.

Late morning is the worst. If it's afternoon, you start the liquid diet later & do only half the bowel prep the night before, the rest in the morning.

Oh, yeah - I think a trip to McDonald's may be in order afterwards. When my mom did hers, it was later in the day, and afterwards, she wanted pancakes. So
we came back to my house and I made her pancakes.

That was pretty funny.
I think the worst is over (for now). Right now I've got ice in my lower lip - I was sucking on a popsicle and I think the inside of my lower lip stuck to the popsicle. My lip looks like somebody popped me one. http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/3841002/?d_full_comments=1&d_comments_page=1 I can't get the linky thing to work, but here's another funny story (I think it's by Dave Barry).

That's hilarious. The space shuttle image is quite evocative.

Ugh. I couldn't eat for several hours after my last colonoscopy. The anesthesia really made me queasy, and I hadn't eaten for almost 48 hrs before,
because they'd planned to do a sigmoid the day before, and then bumped me to the colonoscopy, so I was STARVING. I'm supposed to have my next baseline
this year, and I'm really hoping it won't be as awful, because I don't have anyone to come home with me and hold my hand.
The actual colonoscopy itself was no big deal. I hope yours goes as smoothly! (no pun intended.) |

Yeah, I'm back at home and STARVING. Everything went well, no polyps but just a touch of diverticulosis. Which I guess is not unexpected for someone in
their 50's.

Ha, KG, that's my local news affiliate you linked and GOLO is the area that I occasionally lose my mind and get all caught up in.
Good luck today! |

Kero, there's no reason you should have to put up with post-procedure nausea. I asked for the lowest possible dose of sedative & pain
med and asked them to add zofran to my colonoscopy cocktail, and had no queasiness at all. When you make your appointment next time, just tell them you
experienced hours of nausea after the last one and ask them to give you antinausea medication in the IV.

See, I had no idea you could do that! Thanks!

Oh, FH, let me ask you more about that -- my mom is literally postponing her post-mastectomy reconstruction surgery because she doesn't want to deal with
the nausea. I keep telling her "TELL THEM THE ANESTHESIA MADE YOU NAUSEATED" but she doesn't listen to me when I speak in all caps. So, what in
the who now? Zofran? Is that what she wants?
