We recently got a betta fish just before the holidays. Um, they're okay if they don't eat for a couple of days i hope? He wasn't eating more than
like two pellets a day when we left so we put a bunch of extra food in the bowl, hoping it would keep him alive. We'll find out tomorrow.

He should be fine. The fish I work with at work regularly go over the weekend without food.

Putting that extra food in the bowl probably wasn't so good, though. It'll just rot. Just something to remember for next time; I'm sure he'll
be fine.

He's still alive, but not eating. At all. I put three pellets in when we got home and he completely ignored them at first. Then he grabbed one but spit it
out about ten seconds later. Several betta sites say that they are very picky eaters and will eat eventually, but i think this guy is extra stubborn and would
rather starve. I just cleaned the tank so hopefully that will help somewhat.

Ugh. I just dropped the cats at the (new) vet for dental cleanings. I really hope they don't have anything out of the ordinary, because it'll already
be running us $350. Per cat.

I sometimes forget how dumb my cats are. I think of Decca as the brightest of the lot, but even she was completely flummoxed when we moved the food bowl
yesterday. I mean, she can see, right? She can see the food bowl, she sees me put food into it. But it's 5 feet from where it used to be and this just has
her all turned around. I've had to pick her up and place her in front of the bowl for the last two feedings.
I've never had our cats' teeth cleaned. I guess I should? |

I've never had Boomer's teeth cleaned. But when she gets her yearly checkups, the vet says she doesn't need it. I think, like with people, some
cats are more prone to problems than others. And I read somewhere that it also varies based on what you feed them.

Well, the vet (a friend of mine, actually) called to say that Otis has extractions, so his total bill will be quite a bit higher. Apparently he's prone to
"resorptive lesions" which has nothing to do with his diabetes or anything; some cats just get them. As I told her, if there's a chronic and
annoying health malady to get, Otis will get it. Suzie, on the other hand, has such great teeth that she opted to not even do a dental on her today.

I mentioned in Friends & Family about our recent deaths and I've realized that all I really want to do right now is cuddle something. For a minute I
thought about going to the animal shelter tomorrow and taking some stuff to donate (while I was seeing if they were open I realized they'd take all my
aluminum cans, so I don't even have to bother with finding the recycling place) and see if they needed a kitty cuddler at the moment, but I'm afraid if
I do that I'll come home with one and I know I don't want that just yet now. It'd be too much like replacing them, even though they never lived
here.
I have a friend who has cats but I don't want to call tomorrow all "Hey, Brad and Kim! Can I come over and cry all over your couch and cats? I know I haven't been over since LAST Christmas, but...." |

tiger, I don't know how close you are/were to Brad and Kim, but as a cat/animal lover, I would totally understand if I received that phone call.

They found Rover, the fourth cat. He didn't make it. I was hoping that maybe he had, but preparing for the worst. Mom did say that they all really were
just curled up with their eyes closed like they were sleeping, which is very comforting, because even though Dad had said he was told that first night that it
would have been quick and painless like that, I still wasn't sure I believed it and had these visions of them running through the house scared and trying
to get out. But I'm glad it wasn't like that.

This is so sad. Knowing that they did not suffer is a small comfort, but still.

We lost our little cat Pepsi on Sunday night. As near as we can figure, since we didn't see it happen, she tried to hop down from Michael's table that
he has his computer on and misstepped and flipped onto her back on the coffee table, injuring her spine. Michael just happened to look over at the fleece cat
bed on the floor and saw that she was lying there with a claw caught on the fleece, and when he went to help her he saw that she wasn't in good shape. She
didn't have movement in her tail or hindlegs. I got her to take a bit of formula and kept her on my lap, then we settled her into bed with us overnight.
She passed away sometime between 10 and 11am.
She was about 3-4 months old and she and her brother Small Fry were the only survivors of that litter of kittens. Michael had named her brother Small Fry since he was the runt of the litter and I picked his sister up and said, "Well, I guess that makes you Pepsi, since you need a Pepsi with a small fry." We knew it had to be an injury since we was up running around playing earlier and was in eating with the other cats just an hour or two before.

I'm sorry for your losses, LT and Tiger.
I changed my avatar to Pendergast and I thought this would be an appropriate place to see if he shows up. WHY did I get a long haired tan cat when my favorite color is black? |

Because he's just so pretty and you couldn't resist?
