AAARGH! How do I make the arrows go straight in microsoft? I know I'm supposed to hold down shift or alt or something but I can't remember what!

Holding down shift should work. |

Holding down shift makes the arrow go all the way across the page for me. In a straight line, I'll admit, but I don't need it to go across the whole
page. Ugh.

Strange, Word and PP don't do that on my computer.
Can you right-click it and edit the arrow shorter? |

Ugh, just got further proof why I am NOT using this typesetter for my next project. Just got the final bill with a ton of extra charges, including for extra
sets of pages when the majority of changes in those sets were for the front and back matter--which hadn't been included in the first sets of pages. Those
weren't the fourth pages for the back matter, those were first pages.

I got a promotion today. The big difference between my old job title and my new one are being expected to take on more responsibility, I get a secretary
assigned to me -- I've had an "unofficial" one who has helped me out the last year or so, and a pay raise. Other than that, I've really been
acting as the new job title for almost 2 years now. Today just made it official.
Except I was told not only are there no merit raises this year (a rumor that has been circulating for about a month) but there are also no promotion increases. And hey, I get it, times are tough. There was a part of me that expected to go into my review and hear "good work this year, and any other year we'd be promoting you, but, you know, the economy...try again next year." I'm thankful to just have a job, particularly because there have been 2 rounds of layoffs at my firm. But the part that's really rubbing me the wrong way is that not only did they raise my billing rate in January, but tomorrow it goes up again for the sole reason that I got promoted. The two increases will add up to an additional $40/hour. I can honestly say that if they said to me "look, the economy sucks so we have to freeze your billing rate to get the most business in here possible, so with a frozen billing rate we can't give you any kind of a merit increase" I would be able to deal with this a lot easier. But to say that they can't afford to give me a promotion increase because of the economy while simultaneously raising my billing rate because I was promoted rings a bit hollow. Am I being totally unreasonable? |

No; that requires an explanation, IMO. I bet the top-paid lawyers aren't taking pay cuts.

Yeah, sounds to me like they're using "the economy" to screw you out of a pay raise that they can clearly afford if they're charging clients
more for your work.

Anyone know of a place to work that pays decent with good benefits but doesn't feature a boss who blames you for stupid things and puts you on 30 days
notice?

Touche, Old New Lady, To EFFING Che. I'm on vacation, but I, stupidly, agreed to work roughly a day and a half a week. I'm in charge of field trips and
tomorrow we're going to the zoo. I wasn't sure if we were going to give the kids 10 bucks or what and ONL decided on a picnic and since I'm in
charge of Field Trips it's on me to get said food. I don't even eat sandwiches, but whatever because I left the rest of the program on her because I
don't care. So I call today to get a count of kids and ask her if she can pick up ice in the morning and she says "No, I can't do that I think you
should pick up the ice because I may not be going". Uh, excuse me? So I asked when she'll know for sure and she said that she would know tomorrow
morning and that she told the co-teacher (at the school) that if she isn't there by 8 she won't be going. I don't give a fuck what she told him,
I'm her co-worker, the program is legally under our organization and she needs to tell me. She's just mad because she agreed to work the 3 days a week
and I said no. I also found out that she told the boss "CC, is teaching this particular program to the entire class and I don't like that" at
which point the boss says "that's what I WANT to be done". I just want to make it through tomorrow because if her crew can't recruit kids the
program will be canceled anyway.

Thanks, guys. Remember how I had my yearly review back in April and I was at "Not at Standards"? I had put on a happy face about it...thinking that I
was improving. But today she sits down with me for the 30 day review (the last one had gone ok) and says..this is it. If I don't show enough
improvement...I'm gone. So, basically, I feel like I'm going to be fired. Cause I don't know how much more I can really do. I don't know what
to do. I'm sitting here crying and just feeling as bad as I did before I let myself forget and watch "So you think you can dance" (I heart that
show for the 2 hour respite). See Mental Health for other things I have to say about the state of my head.
