I am really proud, although it's tempered a bit by trying to figure out how I got forty pounds overweight in the first place. But I'm proud that I did
it without crash dieting, or really even denying myself much of what I wanted. Slow and steady, and here I am. I still want to lose a little more weight, but I
was wearing a shirt the other day, and I realized that I might even be on the thin side of "average." The charts and stuff would still disagree with
me (according to those damn BMI charts I am a HAIR under being overweight, and I'm sorry, but it's just not true), but I know what I see in the mirror
and I know how clothes look on my body. Like I said, I would like to lose a little more weight--well, really I want to do more toning, but I'm also pretty
content where I am right now. I'm going to have to get some before and after pictures.

Congratulations to lasu & ChocolateCherry! It makes me happy to see my OTB buddies taking good care of themselves.
The Minutes Gang: Finnan IME Kero kgo ODF SpringBarb Stellaluna The math: 7 x 150 minutes = 1050 + 210 to bring me to 360 (because I've been getting lazy) - 20 minutes walking yesterday = 1240 minutes , + 230 to bring ODF to 380 minutes = 1470. I restarted the 100 Pushups Challenge yesterday because it's damned embarrassing to have to ask the guys to count their own pushups when I'm leading the warm-up because I can't even do 25 modified pushups. So when I tested myself to start I could do 4 pushups in good form. On the 5th set yesterday, where I had to do as many as possible but at least 3, I managed 5. I maintained form but that last one was a grunting, teeth-clenching struggle. Oh, and did I mention that instead of the padded workout flooring they told us we'd be getting for the room where we do tae kwon do, they're laying tile over the concrete? I don't suppose that matters for the tai chi & yoga classes but there goes any hope of our instructor teaching us forward falls.

For the most part, it's been expending more calories than I took in. I know, I know. But, in that, I just tried to make informed decisions about what I put
in my mouth. But if I really wanted something, I ate it. Period, the end. And I didn't beat myself up about it, or try to make up for it later or anything
like that. I just ate the damn food and enjoyed it. I tried to eat less unhealthy food that I didn't love. Like a lot of fast food I get because it's
cheap and easy, but when I stopped and thought about it, I don't love a McDonald's cheeseburger enough to make it worth it. So I started getting salads
or grilled chicken sandwiches instead. I also do things like pour a bowl of potato chips (the Utz's Kettle cooked reduced fat are AWESOME) rather than
grabbing the whole bag. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I go back for a second bowl, but it forces me to think about it. I also drink tons of water. So,
really nothing really earth shattering. As I've mentioned before, I think that doing Weight Watchers gave me a good nutritional education which was a good
foundation for the way I "dieted." I also was working out 5 - 6 days for quite a while, although now I'm lucky to go once or twice a week because
of work.

Wow lasu! That's so great - congratulations. Have you gone through your closets & given away the things that are way too big for you yet? Did you have
any things hanging way in the back that you outgrew long ago that now fit?
Personally, I have a good number of skirts/pants in size 2 that I haven't been able to wear in years, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them. There are probably some dresses I can't wear anymore either, but I haven't had a depressing try on session to determine that. |

Another thing that I did is not listen too much to other people. I know what works for me. For example, I eat a lot of fruit. I've had more than one person
say to me, "Oh you know, too much fruit though, it's really high in sugar and calories...!" Yes, I'm aware of that. Thank you for the update.
However, if I wasn't eating this banana I'd be plowing through some doritos, so all in all, I've made a good choice. Could I make even better
choices? Absolutely. But I've made a positive change that works for me so there is no reason to point out that I could have made an even better
choice--even if that even better choice wouldn't have worked for me. I'm aware that it would be good for me to eat more raw vegetables in place of some
of the fruit I eat. But that doesn't work for me. I have seedless grapes that I am going to eat with my lunch today. Chances are that if I had baby
carrots--which I even like--to eat with my sandwich today, I would end up down stairs getting a bag of cheez its.
My diet isn't perfect. I've tried for "perfect" before and it doesn't work for me. I need room to play and figure out what I like to eat and what I want to eat and what I'm GOING to eat. If I get too caught up in trying to make the BEST choices rather than just BETTER choices, I fall apart. ETA: Wow lasu! That's so great - congratulations. Have you gone through your closets & given away the things that are way too big for you yet? Did you have any things hanging way in the back that you outgrew long ago that now fit? It's been like shopping for free! I've taken my bigger sizes out of my closet, but I have some really nice pieces in large sizes that I'm just not willing to get rid of right now. It's only been six months since I could wear them, I need to know this is going to work for me in the very long term before I get rid of those investments. But yeah, getting back into some cute clothing from a few years ago has been awesome!

Congrats lasu, that's great! The main thing about what you're doing is one of the big tenets of Weight Watchers - it fits within your lifestyle. It may
not be what everyone else says to do but if it works for you, then go for it.
Once we move and life gets back to normal I need to get back into WW and working out. I've been a big slouch. |

lasu, I'd say your diet is perfect: it obviously works for you, you've lost weight and you don't feel
deprived so you can stick with it. Diets don't get any more "perfect" than that!
As for fruit being "really high in sugar and calories," that's only true if you're comparing fruit to lettuce or a glass of water. Some people have really strange notions about nutrition. Speaking of nutrition (but not strange notions), I tried that quinoa & chickpea salad that ODF posted the recipe for and it's delish! And I don't even like chickpeas! I did add extra vegs just because I like 'em, and to my strange notions of nutrition, a "salad" needs more veggies than the original recipe calls for. |

Congratulations, Lasu.
I suck at working out and the evil gym's cardio machines are gonna tattle to my coach is I do less than 90 minutes a week. What kind of hell have I brought upon myself? I also have to remember to tell the machines to stop throwing my weight in my face every time I log into a machine. I think I'll schedule my workouts around the best tv shows and maybe that will help numb the pain. |

My experience is that there are 2 kinds of exercise: the kind you like and the kind you don't like. The kind you like is its own reward. The kind you
don't like often requires some mental trick or distraction, which is why so many people watch TV or read while using treadmills or stationary cycles.
It's why I plug my head into music when I'm running on a treadmill, not when I'm outside. So scheduling your workouts according to the TV schedule
is a good idea; a little distraction can make a big difference.

Congrats, Lasu! I'm seething with jealousy. That's so great! And you touch on a bit what I wish doctors would say, that your diet has to work within your lifestyle. Of course it does! When the doctor tells me I can't ever eat after 7 PM, that's just ridiculous to me. Sometimes I'm at work until 2 or 3 in the morning. That's a LONG time of NO eating. It's just silly. They have to find a way to work with me. |

I think the 7pm thing is assuming you go to bed around midnight or so, right? It's just a no sleeping on a full stomach rule. If your schedule is way off
the average 9-5 work schedule, there would have to be adaptions made to the timing.
